Victor Jara was a Chilean poet and folk singer born on September 23, 1932, in Lonquén, Chile. He is considered one of the most influential Latin American artists of the 20th century. His musical career began in 1957 after he met someone who encouraged him to write his own songs. He joined a folk band that published an album that year, featuring his song "Se me ha escapado un suspiro." In 1958, he contributed to their second album, "Villancicos Chilenos," with songs like "Doña María te ruego" and "Décimas por el nacimiento." During this period, he also worked as a theatre director. His third album, "Una Geografía Musical de Chile" (1962), included his compositions "Paloma quiero contarte" and "Canción del minero." In 1965, Jara embarked on a solo career with the single "Paloma quiero contarte"/"La beata." From 1966 to 1969, he served as the musical director of a group. His original discography includes several albums such as "Victor Jara" (1967), "Víctor Jara" (1967), "Canciones folklóricas de América" (with Quilapayún, 1968), "Pongo en tus manos abiertas" (1969), "Canto Libre" (1970), "El derecho de vivir en paz"
