Víctor Piñero, also known as "El Negro Piñero" and "El Rey del Merecumbé," was a Venezuelan singer born in Caracas on May 10, 1923. He displayed a talent for singing from a young age, winning a singing contest promoted by Radio Libertador. In 1944, he briefly joined Mañito's Orchestra before moving to Leonard Melody Orchestra, where he gained recognition as the star singer. Following the disbandment of the orchestra, he performed with one of Belisario's brothers' orchestras. In the mid-1950s, Piñero became the only Venezuelan artist to record with a legendary figure in the music industry. After a stint in Havana, he returned to Venezuela and joined Los Peniques, achieving significant success. He was invited by Galán to join his orchestra, where he helped popularize the new rhythm, Merecumbé, earning the title "El Rey del Merecumbé." Piñero's career as a traveling singer took him through various countries, including the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, before returning to Venezuela to lead Arnaldo Belisario's orchestra and later perform with La Tremenda. In 1958, he was invited by Renato Capriles to star with his orchestra, leading to another wave of success.
