Villa 21 is a darkwave band formed in December 1981 in Athens, Greece, by Costas Pothoulakis (vocals/guitar) and his wife (keyboards/rhythm box). Pothoulakis had previously played in other bands, including Homicide. The band made their first live appearance at Sofita club on November 11, 1982, and released their first 7" single "I See No!" that same year. The single featured guest musicians Solon Stathopoulos on bass and Stelios Hatzikremilis on drums. Later, they added a permanent bassist and percussionist, releasing the single "Move" in 1983, followed by their debut album "A Ghost On The Move." In 1984, they contributed a track to the compilation "World Class Punk," and in 1985, they released their second album "Men of Clay." The band's sound began to shift toward Garage Punk after the release of their songs in the 1987 compilation "Cicadas." Their third album, "Electric Poison," was released the same year and gained attention in Europe, reaching No. 6 on the Austrian Indie chart. In 1988, they released the EP "House Of The Damned" and contributed covers to the compilations "12 Raw Greek Groups" and "Straight To Hellas."
