Vincent Gallo is an American actor, author, director, and musician born on April 11, 1961, in Buffalo, New York. He began his musical journey in the early 1970s, playing guitar in garage bands and developing an appreciation for electronic, avant-garde, experimental, prog rock, and proto-punk music. Gallo played in several obscure Buffalo-based bands, including the Blue Mood, Zephyr, and the Plastics, before moving to New York City at the age of 16. There, he co-founded a group with renowned artist Jean Michel Basquiat. In 1982, Gallo released an album with a band named Bohack and also had a rap duo called Trouble Deuce and Coce during the early 1980s. After recording the soundtrack for the underground film The Way It Is, he shifted his focus to film, working steadily as an actor, director, and composer. Gallo gained recognition with the 1998 film Buffalo 66, which featured several of his original compositions on its soundtrack. In 1999, he recorded an album for Sony with guitarist Lukas Haas under the band name Bunny, but the group disbanded after a successful Japanese tour, resulting in the shelving of their debut album. After relocating to Los Angeles, Gallo built a studio in his John Lautner-designed home, where he began recording solo demos that caught the attention of Warp Records.
