Volcano Suns were formed in Boston in 1983 by Peter Prescott, the former drummer and vocalist of Mission of Burma. Initially, Prescott was joined by guitarist Gary Waleik and bassist Steve Michener, but they left early on to form another band before any material was released. They were replaced by bassist Jeff Weigand and guitarist Jon Williams, who recorded the band's first two albums: "The Bright Orange Years" in 1985 and "All-Night Lotus Party" in 1986. In early 1987, Weigand and Williams departed, leading to the addition of Bob Weston and Chuck Hahn for the third album, "Bumper Crop," which was their final release for SST Records. The band then moved to another label for 1988's "Farced," the last album featuring Hahn, who was subsequently replaced by Dave Kleiler. The new lineup recorded the double LP "Thing of Beauty" in 1989, their second and final release on SST. They later transitioned to another label for their final album, "Career in Rock," released in 1991. In 2005, Prescott, Weston, and Kleiler reunited for live performances.
