Volta Jazz is a longstanding musical collective from Burkina Faso, West Africa, formed in 1964. Also known as Orchestre Volta Jazz, the band initially played a Cuban style of music before incorporating elements of their native Bobo styles. The group reached its peak in both musical innovation and popularity between 1967 and 1972, during which time they toured several neighboring countries and recorded the majority of their work. In 1977, Volta Jazz returned to the studio with a new lineup.
