Walter Becker was an American guitarist, bass player, and saxophonist born on February 20, 1950, in New York, New York. He was largely associated with the music duo he formed with Donald Fagen while attending Bard College. The two were part of a group in the early 1970s before forming Steely Dan in 1972. After the band broke up in 1981, Becker moved to Hawaii and began a career as a producer for various artists, ranging from synth-pop groups to folk singers. He later reunited with Fagen to collaborate on the debut album for Fagen and toured as Steely Dan in 1993. During this time, they also worked on each other's solo albums, including Becker's 1993 release and Fagen's 1994 album. Walter Becker passed away on September 3, 2017, in Maui, Hawaii.
