Walter Martino was an Italian drummer born in Milan on April 18, 1953, and he passed away on March 7, 2026. He came from a musical family, with his father Bruno being a well-known singer, pianist, and composer. Walter began his musical journey at the age of 10 by studying classical piano, but he soon shifted his focus to drums, which became his primary instrument by the age of 14. Between 1968 and 1974, Walter collaborated with various bands and artists, including Il Ritratto di Dorian Gray, Raccomandata con Ricevuta di Ritorno, Reale Accademia di Musica, Tito Schipa Jr., Giovanni Ullu, Paolo Rustichelli, Enrico Simonetti, and Severino Gazzelloni. In 1975, he took two significant steps in his career by co-founding the band GOBLIN, alongside Claudio Simonetti, Fabio Pignatelli, and Massimo Morante, where he composed and arranged the soundtrack for Dario Argento's film "Deep Red." Later that year, he joined the historic Italian rock band LIBRA, which was notable for recording two albums with Motown Records.
