Walter Wanderley (May 12, 1932 - September 4, 1986) was a Brazilian pianist, organist, and arranger born in Recife, Brazil. He moved to São Paulo in 1947, where he learned to play the organ with his aunt and studied harmony at Lyceu de Artes. Wanderley began his professional music career at the age of 18, recording over 18 albums in Brazil. He gained prominence in the 1960s with his band, Walter Wanderley e Seu Conjunto, and arranged music for João Gilberto's third album. In 1965, he moved to the USA after being invited to sign with Verve Records, where he released his first album, "Rain Forest," featuring a Billboard Top 50 hit, "So Nice" (Summer Samba). Throughout his career, he recorded several albums for Verve and later signed with A&M/CTI, working with various notable musicians. Wanderley eventually settled in California, where he passed away after a long battle with bone cancer.
