Wando, born Wanderley Alves dos Reis on October 2, 1945, was a Brazilian singer-songwriter known for his contributions to MPB (Música Popular Brasileira). He earned the nickname Wando from his grandmother and moved from Cajuri to Juiz de Fora during his childhood, where he studied classical guitar and began his musical journey around the age of 20. Initially, he participated in music ensembles and performed at local dances. Later, he relocated to Volta Redonda (RJ), working as a truck driver and marketer. Wando's singing career began in 1969, and he gained significant success in 1973. He composed songs for other artists, including Jair Rodrigues, who recorded "O Importante é Ser Fevereiro" in 1974. Notable songs written by Wando include "A Menina e o Poeta," recorded by Roberto Carlos in 1976, "Chora Coração" in 1985, which was featured in the Brazilian soap opera Roque Santeiro, and his biggest hit, "Fogo e Paixão," from the 1988 album "O Mundo Romântico de Wando." In January 2012, Wando was admitted to the ICU in Belo Horizonte due to severe heart problems, underwent emergency angioplasty, and was placed on breathing machines. He passed away from cardiopulmonary arrest on February 8, 2012, at the Biocor Institute in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais
