Wang Chung is an English new wave pop band that emerged in the 1980s, founded in London in 1979 under the name Huang Chung. The original lineup included lead vocals, keyboards, and guitar, vocals, keyboards, and bass guitar, and vocals, drums, percussion, and keyboards. In 1981, the band expanded to a quartet with the addition of a sax player. In line with their pseudonymous identity, the sax player was known as for the first Arista single and later simply as Hogg. Their self-titled debut album was released by Arista Records in 1982, following several profile-raising singles. After the release of the album, David Burnand left the group due to "musical differences." Late in 1982, Huang Chung signed with an American label and changed the spelling of their name to Wang Chung at the suggestion of David Geffen, to simplify pronunciation.
