Warda Ftouki, known as Warda or Warda Al-Jazairia, was an influential Algerian singer born on July 22, 1939, in Paris to an Algerian father and a Lebanese mother. She passed away on May 17, 2012, in Cairo, Egypt. Renowned for her sentimental and patriotic songs, Warda's repertoire includes over 300 songs, and she has sold tens of millions of albums, earning her the title of "diva" of Arabic song. Throughout her career, she received numerous accolades, including the El-Athir medal of the Algerian Order of National Merit in November 2004, being made Commander of the Moroccan Order of Ouissam Alawite in 2009, and appointed to the rank of knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2012. In 2021, she was recognized as one of the 318 Heroes of Diversity by the French government.
