Wart is a band formed in 1981 in Rennes, France. Initially, the band was known under a different name, with members playing guitar, singing, drums, and bass, all influenced by the punk music era of 1977. They practiced their music on small local stages. In 1983, after replacing their bass player with Crépon, they adopted the name Wart—a portmanteau of War and Art—and shifted their style from punk to Cold Wave. In 1984, Wart released the track "New Clear War" on a compilation under their original name and later released "Where's The Sun?" under the name Wart. A first split occurred in early 1986, but Wart reformed with new members including Polio, along with brothers on drums and bass. The four members were featured during the "Fiesta Berurière" in December 1986, alongside other bands. In 1987, a young member joined on keyboards, and the band performed at the Rennes festival Rock & Solex. The band experienced another split in 1988 when Jello and Pascal left, leaving Jean-Yves and Sylvain, who briefly formed a group called Steps. In 2010, Jean-Yves and Sylvain revived Wart for a special concert.
