Wendy Carlos is an electronic musician born on November 14, 1939, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She pursued her M.A. in composition under Vladimir Ussachevsky and Otto Luening at Columbia University's Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center. After graduating, she moved to Manhattan, where she worked as a recording engineer. In Manhattan, she met Dr. Robert Moog and began playing the Moog synthesizer. Carlos contributed to the creation of a touch-sensitive keyboard and assisted in the development of the vocoder alongside Bob Moog.
