Western Jazz is a band and dancing club that has been entertaining East Africans for nearly twenty years, based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Formed in 1959, just two years before the end of British administration in Tanganyika, the band originated with many members from the Western Province and other areas in the west. Initially established as a regional association, Western Jazz provided a social space for migrants from western Tanzania to meet friends, enjoy good music, and dance, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds.
