What? Noise was a collective of sound engineers consisting of Tim Harris, Julia Adamson, and Chris Nagle, who operated out of Strawberry and Yellow Two Studios in Stockport during the late 1980s. They were also experienced record producers, collaborating with various local indie groups. The trio utilized a diverse range of instruments, including stylophones, guitars, and whirly sound hoses, while also programming drums and sequencers using C Lab software on Atari computers to create finished masters for record companies. In 1989, they supported Fishbone on a UK tour and later toured universities with their label mates Finitribe in 1990 to promote the album 'Fat.' Additionally, they performed concerts in Manchester alongside local bands such as Dubsex and Flatback Four.
