White Shoes & The Couples Company
White Shoes & The Couples Company is an Indonesian pop, funk, and jazz band based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Formed in 2002 by Aprilia Apsari, Saleh, and Yusmario Farabi, the band later expanded to include Ricky Virgana, John Navid, and Aprimela Prawidiyanti in 2004. The band's name was inspired by the trend of wearing white shoes at their school. They primarily sing in Indonesian and their music draws influence from 1970s Indonesian movie soundtracks, 1930s jazz, and 1960s pop music. The band is signed to both Aksara Records in Indonesia and Minty Fresh, an independent label based in Chicago. They released their self-titled album in 2005 and an EP titled Skenario Masa Muda in 2007. Following their signing with Minty Fresh, they re-released their self-titled album for international audiences. White Shoes & The Couples Company has received recognition from Rolling Stone as one of the best 25 bands on MySpace and was named one of the 25 most crushworthy bands of 2006 by Allmusic.
