White Shoes & The Couples Company is an Indonesian pop, funk, and jazz band based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The band, formed in 2002, consists of members Aprilia Apsari, Saleh, Yusmario Farabi, John Navid, Ricky Virgana, and Aprimela Prawidiyanti. Apsari and Farabi met while studying at the fine arts faculty of the Jakarta Institute of Arts, and they initially formed the band with Saleh. In 2004, Ricky Virgana, John Navid, and Aprimela Prawidiyanti joined the group. The band's name was inspired by the trend of wearing white shoes at their school. White Shoes & The Couples Company primarily sings in Indonesian and has been influenced by 1970s Indonesian movie soundtracks, 1930s jazz, and 1960s pop music. They released their self-titled album on Aksara Records in 2005, followed by an EP titled "Skenario Masa Muda" in 2007. They later signed with the American independent label Minty Fresh, which re-released their self-titled album internationally. The band has received recognition, being named one of the best 25 bands on MySpace by Rolling Stone and one of the 25 most crushworthy bands of 2006 by Allmusic.
