Wilco is an American alternative rock band formed in 1994 and based in Chicago, Illinois. The band, led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Jeff Tweedy, solidified its current lineup in 2004 with the addition of guitarist Nels Cline and guitarist/keyboardist Patrick Sansone, joining founding bassist John Stirratt, drummer Glenn Kotche, and keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen. Wilco's music blends classic roots rock with elements of folk, pop, and experimentalism. The band's notable catalog includes the critically acclaimed 2002 album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, recognized by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and the Grammy award-winning A Ghost is Born from 2005. Other significant releases include the Grammy-nominated Wilco (The Album) and The Whole Love. NPR has praised Wilco as “the best rock band in America,” while the Los Angeles Times has described them as “an amazing machine whose six players seem more at one with their music than any rock group working today.” Additionally, Wilco collaborated with British folk singer Billy Bragg on the Mermaid Avenue series, which features original music set to lyrics by the iconic Woody Guthrie.
