Wilfrido Vargas, born Wilfrido Radamés Vargas Martínez on April 24, 1949, in Altamira, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, is a renowned band leader, trumpeter, vocalist, arranger, composer, and producer. He is celebrated as a legendary Latin folk hero in the music community for his instrumental innovations in the merengue style, which has achieved worldwide prominence. He is also the father of two children.
