William DeVaughn is an American singer, songwriter, and keyboardist born in Washington, D.C. in 1947. He is best known for his 1974 hit single "Be Thankful for What You Got," which reached the top ten on the Billboard R&B chart and the top thirty on the Billboard Hot 100. DeVaughn began his music career in the 1960s, performing in local D.C. bands and working as a staff writer for various record labels. In addition to his iconic single, he released another album in 1980. Although he did not achieve the same level of commercial success as his hit, DeVaughn's music continues to resonate with fans of soul, funk, and R&B.
