Wilson Pickett was an American R&B/Soul singer born on March 18, 1941, in Prattville, Alabama. He gained prominence in the 1960s as one of the most popular black singers of the era, known for introducing an aggressive rhythmic style of soul music. Pickett's success was bolstered by the talented studio bands at Stax Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, and The Fame Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Between 1963 and 1972, he recorded a series of R&B and pop hits on Atlantic Records, including "In the Midnight Hour," "Mustang Sally," and "Funky Broadway." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 as a Performer. Wilson Pickett passed away from a heart attack on January 19, 2006.
