Wilton Felder was a renowned jazz saxophonist, bassist, songwriter, and producer, born on August 31, 1940, in Houston, Texas. He passed away on September 27, 2015, in his hometown of Houston. Felder was a prominent figure in the jazz and soul music scenes of the 1970s and 1980s, best known as a founding member of The Jazz Crusaders, which he helped establish in the late 1950s while still in high school. In addition to his work with the group, he was an active west coast studio musician, contributing saxophone and electric bass to various soul, R&B, and rock albums for numerous artists. Felder had a modest solo career and was known for playing a King Super 20 tenor sax with a metal 105/0 Berg Larsen mouthpiece, as well as Yamaha saxophones. He played a Fender Precision bass and also used Aria bass guitars.
