Wim Overgaauw was a notable Dutch jazz guitarist, born on November 23, 1929, in Hilversum, Netherlands. He passed away on November 30, 1995, in his hometown at the age of 66. Overgaauw was recognized as one of the most important Dutch jazz guitarists of his generation. Initially, he experimented with the violin before switching to guitar, beginning his career as a self-taught musician in Amsterdam. He later worked for the American forces in Germany and toured the Netherlands with a pianist and singer. Eventually, he established himself as a studio musician and guitar teacher in Hilversum. Despite his sophisticated playing, Overgaauw remained largely unnoticed by a wider audience, as he was introverted and showed little interest in the business aspects of the music industry. The few albums he recorded as a leader were primarily in the easy listening genre. It was only after his death that Blue Jack Jazz Records released some of his jazz concerts on CD. His legacy also endures through the many students he taught at the Hilversum Conservatory.
