Winston Samuel was born in 1944 in Kingston, Jamaica, and passed away in 2017, with his death announced on August 24 of that year. He began his music career in 1961, recording for producer Clement "Coxson" Dodd, with his first release being "In Jail" on the All Stars label. His follow-up song, "In Paradise," was also produced by Dodd. One of his notable hits, "Angela," was recorded for producers Nembhard & Henry's N & H label and reached #1. In 1964, Samuels started recording for L. O. Pottinger's SEP label, producing hits such as "Be Prepared," "You Are The One," and "Come What May." He also recorded for other producers, including Lloyd "Matador" Daley and Cecil "Prince Buster" Campbell, with songs like "Here I Come Again," "Give To Get," "Peace Of Mind," "Holding Out," and "I'm Still Here." After moving to the United States, he recorded for the Clintones label in New York City during the 1970s, with tracks like "Let's Get It On" and "Lick It Forward." In 2000, a 16-track compilation of his 1960s recordings titled "Ska Authentic" was released and distributed by Rainbow Records.
