Wire is an English rock band formed in London in October 1976. The original lineup included members on vocals and guitar, bass and vocals, guitar, and drums. Initially inspired by the UK punk rock scene, they appeared on "The Roxy London WC2 (Jan - Apr 77)", a significant document of the early punk movement. Wire later became central to the development of post-punk, influencing numerous bands in the decades that followed. They are often regarded as one of the most important rock groups of the 1970s and 1980s. Critic Stewart Mason noted that over their first three albums, Wire expanded the sonic boundaries of punk and rock music in general. The band is recognized as a definitive art punk or post-punk ensemble, characterized by their richly detailed and atmospheric sound, often obscure lyrical themes, and a Situationist political stance. Their musical evolution is marked by a transition from the raucous punk style of their 1977 debut album "Pink Flag" to a more complex sound with increased use of guitar effects and synthesizers in 1978's "Chairs Missing" and 1979's "154". Throughout their career, Wire gained a reputation for experimenting with song arrangements. In 2004, founding member Gilbert left the band, and in 2010, a new member joined.
