X-Clan is a militantly pro-Afrocentric hip-hop group originating from Brooklyn, New York. The original lineup consisted of Anthony Hardin, Claude Gray, Jason Hunter, and Lumumba Robert Carson. In the early 1990s, the group was a cornerstone act of the Blackwatch movement. However, this version of X-Clan disbanded in 1995. Following the disbandment, Sugar Shaft passed away from AIDS, and in 1996, Brother J released an album with the group. After the death of another member from spinal meningitis, Brother J formed a new version of X-Clan, which included new members Master China, Kumu, Ultraman, ACL, Lord Cza, DJ Fat Jack, and Zulu. This lineup released the album "Return from Mecca" in 2007 and "Mainstream Outlaws" in 2009, while maintaining the group's original message.
