Háris Alexíou is a renowned Greek laïkó and éntekhno singer and songwriter, born on December 27, 1950, in Thebes, Boeotia, Greece. She has been one of the most popular singers in Greece since the 1970s and has achieved significant commercial success. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with prominent Greek songwriters and composers and performed in prestigious musical theatres around the world, earning numerous awards. Her first recording, "Όταν Πίνει Μια Γυναίκα," was released in 1970, marking the beginning of her career, and her initial contract provided her with one copy of the recorded vinyl. In 1996, her live album "Γυρίζοντας Τον Κόσμο" sold over 135,000 copies in Greece, achieving platinum status. In June 2020, she announced her retirement from live performances after fifty years in the music industry. Alexíou is also the founder and owner of a record label and a production company. In recognition of her contributions to art and her heritage, a street in Izmir, Turkey, was named Haris Alexiou Friendship Street on May 15, 2010, by the city's mayor. She has been married twice: first to a producer, with whom she adopted a son named after a dear friend, and later to her manager on March 1, 1992.
