X-Clan is a militantly pro-Afrocentric hip-hop group originating from Brooklyn, New York. The original lineup consisted of Anthony Hardin, Claude Gray, Jason Hunter, and Lumumba Robert Carson. In the early 1990s, they were a cornerstone act of the Blackwatch movement. The group disbanded in 1995, and later that year, member Sugar Shaft passed away due to AIDS. In 1996, Brother J released an album with another group. After the death of another member from spinal meningitis, Brother J reformed X-Clan with new members Master China, Kumu, Ultraman, ACL, Lord Cza, DJ Fat Jack, and Zulu. This new iteration of the group released the albums "Return from Mecca" in 2007 and "Mainstream Outlaws" in 2009, while maintaining their original message.
