Yabby You, born on August 14, 1946, in Kingston, Jamaica, was a prominent roots reggae artist and producer, also known as 'Jesus Dread', Yabby U, and Yabby Yu. He grew up in a ghetto environment and worked in an aluminum foundry before becoming involved with the Ethiopian World Federation. Yabby You began his recording career in the early 1970s, making his first recordings around 1972, which included a tune that led to his famous alias due to its chorus being played as a dubplate by King Tubby for two years. However, this tune was not released until 1974, featuring the voices of artists who later became significant figures in reggae. He established his own labels around 1974, including Yabby You, and the rest of his story is a foundation of roots reggae. He passed away on January 12, 2010.
