Yambú is a music group founded in 1972 by a bassist and a pianist who were music teachers at The 3rd Street Music School Settlement in Lower Manhattan. Their music, which encompassed genres such as salsa, funk, and disco, reflected the diverse influences of the "Nueyorquino melting pot" of the era. Yambú's most notable track is a cover of the jazz standard "Sunny," which was arranged by Milton, the band's musical director at the time. The female vocals on this track were provided by Milton's girlfriend. "Sunny" gained popularity in New York clubs, aided by the Record Pool, a non-profit DJ record sharing service that had recently been established.
