Yao Su Yong, born on December 5, 1945, is a renowned Taiwanese singer who gained prominence in the late 1960s and 1970s, particularly for her movie theme songs in Taiwanese films. She first rose to fame with the song “負心的人,” but it was the title track of the 1969 film “今天不回家” that propelled her to stardom in the Chinese-speaking world. After facing a ban from singing in Taiwan due to a controversial performance and her failure to provide a song list for that concert, she sought to advance her career in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. Now retired, Yao Su Yong lives a quiet life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, though her musical legacy endures. She declined a performance at the 1998 Golden Horse Awards, and a 1996 remake of “今天不回家” still features her original song. Additionally, her music received renewed attention through the 2020 film Tigertail, which included “偷心的人.” Her songs remain popular, solidifying her place in the history of Chinese pop music.
