Yungun, also known as Essa, is a North London-born artist who has made significant contributions to the music scene since the mid-1990s. He started his career as a host and MC on the pirate radio station Parlay in Harrow, where he formed the group Dupa Styles with fellow MC Devise. The duo gained recognition on the competitive open mic circuit in London, collaborating with other emerging MCs like Ricochet and Jargon. In 1998, Yungun connected with DJ and producer Harry Love, who became a key figure in Dupa Styles' music. While continuing to record with the group, Yungun launched a solo career, contributing to various projects by artists such as LG & Lopez, Evil Ed, Doc Brown, and Tommy Evans. His work with the Low Life Records collective included appearances on the "Food" LP and a remix of Jehst’s “Adventures in New Bohemia.” Much of his collaboration with YNR Productions is featured on the label's compilation album "Young N Restless Vol. 1." Yungun, now also known as Essa, is poised to make a significant impact this year with solo projects featuring production from Harry Love, Lewis Parker, Mr. Thing, and Ben Grymm.
