ZIGGY WAS was a rock band formed in 1992 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The band's name was inspired by two songs from the 70s: David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" and Bob Marley's "Johnny Was." Their music style blended hardcore, punk, grunge, and metal with funk influences. Kostas Pantelis, who was previously the guitarist for Pissa & Poupoula, later joined the group as the lead guitarist. In early 1993, ZIGGY WAS recorded a demo titled 'Oil Land,' which garnered the attention of a local indie record label. Following the release of a 7" single, a MiniLP, and a full-length album, they signed to a label in 1997 and released their second full-length album before disbanding. The band's first live performance took place at 'Steki Filosofikis' in Thessaloniki in April 1993. They performed live at Pedio Areos in Athens on June 26, 1993, alongside other bands, and again at club Zero in Thessaloniki on January 27, 1995. The line-up included: - Kostas Karkalis (Drums) - Panos Rossis (Vocals, Guitar) - Lambros Saltsidis (Bass) - Kostas Pantelis (Guitar)
