The Zimbo Trio is a Brazilian instrumental ensemble formed in 1964 in São Paulo. The original lineup included Amilton Godoy on piano, Luís Chaves on bass, and Rubinho Barsotti on drums. They became one of the most influential groups in Brazilian music during the latter half of the 20th century, representing the paulista current of Bossa Nova and showcasing Godoy's academically trained and brilliant playing style. After their debut in 1965, the trio toured extensively across the Americas and Europe. That same year, they became permanent performers on the TV program Fino da Bossa, hosted by Elis Regina and Jair Rodrigues, which aimed to promote new musical talents. In recent years, Itamar Collaço took over for Luís Chaves, who passed away on February 22, 2007. The Zimbo Trio has an extensive discography, featuring over 40 albums, often collaborating with other renowned Brazilian artists.
