Zimoun, born in Switzerland in 1977, is a sound artist and sculptor based in Bern, known for his interest in minimalism, space, and perception. He works across sound art, installation, sound sculpture, and composition, creating architecturally-minded platforms of sound using simple, functional components. His installations often incorporate commonplace industrial objects, exploring mechanical rhythm and flow through prepared systems. Zimoun has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions and performances internationally, earning various art prizes and residencies. He co-founded Leerraum.net in 2003, a platform dedicated to publishing works that investigate reductive principles and structures. His recent exhibitions include notable venues such as the Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, the Museum of Contemporary Art MAC in Santiago de Chile, and the Nam June Paik Art Museum in Seoul, among many others. Zimoun is recognized for his immersive, site-specific works that utilize mechanical principles of rotation and oscillation to create sound through movement. He primarily employs everyday materials such as cardboard, DC motors, cables, and wooden spars, developing small apparatuses that produce tonal and visual complexity when activated, especially when orchestrated in large installations.
