Zinno was a Belgian synthpop/New Wave/Eurodance duo formed in the mid-1980s by cartoonist Frédéric Jannin and a fellow comedian and radio/TV producer. Their debut single in 1985 became a major hit, dominating European radio charts and achieving releases in multiple countries. However, the duo disbanded in 1989 as subsequent singles failed to match their initial success. In 2005, Jannin released a CD compilation of their work on his private label. Prior to Zinno, Jannin co-founded a novelty New Wave/synthpop band in the late 1970s, which originated as a plot element in his comic strip and evolved into a real band with several singles released between 1980 and 1981. The band was driven by Jannin and rock journalist Bert Bertrand, whose tragic suicide in 1983 ended their collaboration. In 1985, Jannin revived his musical career with Zinno, releasing a quirky synthpop cover of Dr. No's "James Bond" theme, which became an airplay hit across Europe. Their follow-up single in 1986 received little attention, and they later collaborated with another band, signing to Magnetic and releasing a third single featuring a cover of a disco classic.
