Zircon & The Burning Brains, also known as ZBB, is an experimental industrial and Dada avant-garde trio based in Leicester, UK. Formed in 1981 as a side project by Alan and Steve Freeman, the group is named in homage to both Frank Zappa and Tangerine Dream's "Electronic Meditation." The trio primarily consisted of the Freeman brothers and a third member, utilizing an array of unconventional instruments including motors, tin cans, pots and pans, a Sinclair Spectrum computer, various cassette machines, and tape loops, with later additions of synthesizers. The original lineup disbanded in 1986 but reformed in 2003 to produce two albums with a completely different setup while maintaining their free-spirited approach to music. This reformation also led to the creation of a one-off sideline project and related endeavors.
