Zoot Simms, born in 1935 in Kingston, Jamaica, was a renowned Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and reggae singer and multi-instrumentalist. He began his musical career in the 1950s, performing alongside his schoolfriend Arthur "Bunny" Robinson in a duo. They are recognized as some of the first Jamaican artists to release a record single. Later in life, Simms lost his sight to glaucoma but continued to write and record songs. He is celebrated as one of Jamaica's most gifted percussionists and collaborated on numerous recordings. His nickname is sometimes spelled as "Scully" or "Skully." Zoot Simms passed away on 4 February 2017 in Kingston, Jamaica.
