Zru Vogue is an American postpunk avant-pop band formed in 1980 in Palo Alto, California. The band originated when three friends from the San Francisco underground scene began experimenting with pop music, blending African tribal and Middle Eastern rhythms, ambient sounds, British-influenced avant-garde rock, dada sensibilities, minimal electronics, and funk-rock guitars. Their debut single, "Nakweda Dream," was released in February 1981 by independent San Francisco label Adolescent Records, achieving college radio success and critical acclaim, including being named the best independent single of 1981 by Sub-pop. In 1982, Zru Vogue became a duo consisting of Andrew Jackson and Rick Cuevas, with various guest artists joining them, and recorded their untitled debut album. After taking a break in 1985 to focus on solo projects, the duo resumed writing and recording in 2002, releasing numerous albums of new material since then. The current line-up features Patrick Coyne on drums, alongside Andrew Lawrence Jackson and Rick Cuevas on all other instruments and vocals.
